LIFE CEDM is a pilot project running in Lucca, Italy, aiming at the realisation of innovative e-Logistics solutions for the start up of the Centre for Eco-Friendly City Freight Distribution and the efficient, sustainable goods delivery for the historic centre of Lucca.

The project includes a number of city logistics measures - regulatory, organisational, operational and technological - integrated in the broader context of urban mobility and transport scenario. This will enable Lucca to achieve high standards of energy efficiency, environmental quality and general quality of the urban environment, thereby acting as a catalyst for other actions and a model for other European cities having the same kind of historical urban environment and transport problems.

LIFE CEDM is developed with the contribution of the LIFE financial instrument of the European Community (Contr. No. LIFE05 ENVT/IT/000870).

The CEDM project ended on April 30, 2008. The action of the Municipality of Lucca aiming at setting up a Urban Distribution Centre as a supplier of useful and innovative logistics services for the City of Lucca has gone on and the final UDC - Luccaport - has been set up.

City Logistics

LIFE CEDM addresses City Logistics within historical urban centres. Many European cities and towns have historical centres, and sustainability, environment preservation and quality of life have become major concerns.

City Logistics is assuming a transverse role, as it operates within complex interdependencies at the urban level. New solutions are increasingly being researched, including measures and elements such as freight transit points, on-demand van stop and unload areas, time windows and access 'certificates', van sharing, B2C goods pick-up points and e-lockers, etc.

Visit our 'City Logistics' section to get more information and access a number of innovative City Logistics projects and experiences in Europe. In the 'Media Centre' section you will be able to access several interesting web resources on the subject.
