"DRT service for meeting demands of locals and tourists in the Municipality's area in Kastoria city"

The AUTh/Transport Systems Research Group in cooperation with local authorities will implement a feasibility study in Kastoria area concerning the application of a FTS for the service of local citizens and tourists.

The feasibility study concerns the provision of FTS for the service of local citizens and tourists. Up to now the activities which have been carried out are:

  • Collection and analysis of data concerning the socio-economic characteristics and the existing conventional public transport services of the Municipality of Kastoria and its wider area (urban bus network - KTEAL, taxis, Municipal tourist boat, usage of municipal minibus).
  • Illustration of useful information concerning the main poles of attraction (production of one map for each season of the year illustrating the poles of attraction in the wider area of Kastoria city and design of one diagram for each season of the year showing the poles of attraction during the passage of the months) and the transport bus lines on the maps of the city of Kastoria and the wider area of the Lake.
  • Design of two extended Questionnaires (which include questions related to: (1) the tourist profile of the area, 2) evaluation of the existing transport services, 3) preferences for a new FTS, general questions without any scenario exercise), one for the tourists that visit Kastoria and one for the professionals in the sector of tourism (such as travel agents, hotel operators).
  • A first investigation of preferences through interviews to a limited number of (a) travel agents and hoteliers and (b) tourists. Collection and analysis the answers and drawing of conclusions in relation to the profile of tourists that comprise a basic target group of a new FTS.
  • Definition and design of alternative FTS scenario schemes and evaluation of them.
  • Realization of two in-house workshops and selection of the FTS scenarios that will be further examined through the stated preferences survey.
  • Design of the questionnaire for the stated preferences survey in order to evaluate the demand. Stated preferences survey in progress.
